Sustainable Silicon Valley Selects Hara to Help Organizations Take Action on Climate Change in Advance of United Nations Conference in Copenhagen

Regional Registry Will Use Hara to Track Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Silicon Valley

Redwood City, CA – December 7, 2009 – Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV), a collaborative association aimed at producing significant regional environmental improvement and resource conservation, has partnered with Hara, the fastest growing provider of on-demand environmental and energy management software. Sustainable Silicon Valley empowers its partners – leading businesses, governments and non-governmental organizations throughout Silicon Valley – to measure and report on sustainability efforts and resource consumption through a regional registry. With today’s announcement, SSV will be transitioning to a data collection system powered by Hara’s Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) solution.

Today’s announcement is being made in conjunction with Sustainable Silicon Valley’s Water Summit and Annual Meeting, being held today at the NASA Ames Research Center. Leaders from businesses, government, water utilities and entrepreneurs will be addressing issues of policy, finance, risk, technology and innovation to secure long-term water supply and management solutions in Silicon Valley, in light of climate change and population growth.

Sustainable Silicon Valley Selected Hara for Comprehensive Approach
Sustainable Silicon Valley will be using Hara EEM as a platform for its partners to measure carbon and water footprints, set targets for reduction of the use of energy and fresh water, increase conservation efforts and the use of recycled water, and report on progress of sustainability efforts. Organizations that join Sustainable Silicon Valley can share best practices and benefit from the education and support provided by the network of partners. In choosing a platform for tracking and analyzing data, Sustainable Silicon Valley recognized that Hara offered a holistic approach to tracking resource consumption beyond its competitors and possessed a deep understanding of SSV’s overall vision.

“We believe that the Silicon Valley region – a leader in technology innovation – can also be a leader in combating climate change, and we see Hara as a close ally in that process,” said Marianna Grossman, Executive Director of Sustainable Silicon Valley. “Since 2004, we have taken on the process of helping our partners with goal setting and tracking progress, and Hara provides us with the platform and support they need to manage data with clearer accounting and analytical support, while we provide a community to share know-how and encouragement.”

“Hara is pleased to be working with an organization that brings together so many Silicon Valley industry innovators with a stake in leading on climate change,” said Amit Chatterjee, CEO and co-founder of Hara. “The businesses and governments that are the most effective at energy and environmental management will have the greatest competitive advantage when taking into account future price increases of energy and natural resources. We look forward to taking this conversation forward in Copenhagen.”

In addition, senior leaders from both Sustainable Silicon Valley and Hara will be attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, December 7-18, 2009. Leaders from both organizations will be conducting discussions with industry, government and non-governmental leaders to share a view from Silicon Valley on the best practices and latest technologies being applied to sustainability initiatives.
